Patna: Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with GreenCo Energies Pvt. Ltd. and Sun Petrochemicals Pvt. Ltd. to develop 2,120 MW Pump Storage Power Houses in Nawada district at a total investment of ₹13,000 crore. The signing took place in the presence of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Samrat Choudhary and Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, Energy Minister Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and other senior officials.

The projects, to be completed within six years, will enhance renewable energy generation, energy storage, and grid stability. Water from Dhanerjay and Sakri rivers will be stored in off-stream, closed-loop systems to generate electricity without impacting natural river flows. The Ekamba project will have 1,200 MW capacity, while Gosaitari will have 920 MW, together totaling 14,281 MW energy storage potential. Approximately 8,000 jobs will be generated during construction.
Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar said, “These projects will enhance the state’s energy security and self-reliance, particularly in balancing solar and wind power.” Energy Minister Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav added, “Under the visionary leadership of Shri Nitish Kumar, the Energy Department is committed to providing uninterrupted and clean electricity. Investors are encouraged to explore Bihar’s growing industrial opportunities.”
Within five months of the Pump Storage Policy-2025 notification, the agencies were selected and land allocated, reflecting Bihar government’s commitment to Net Zero emissions, energy efficiency, and renewable energy leadership. These projects will also support affordable electricity for consumers while promoting sustainable economic growth.
