The achievement comes soon after Agastya and his teammates won the CBSE North Zone 1 Under-11 Boys Chess Championship. Representing Shiv Nadar School, Noida, the team won all six of its matches to finish first among 47 schools from Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. With this victory, the team also qualified for the CBSE National Chess Championship to be held in Jalandhar.

The Commonwealth Schools Chess Championship took place from October 4 to 12, 2026, at Cititel Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian Chess Federation and the Kuala Lumpur Chess Association organised the event on behalf of the Commonwealth Chess Association and FIDE.

The championship brought together 293 young players from across Commonwealth countries. Competitions were held in different age groups, from Under-7 to Under-19.
