Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai whipped himself on Friday as part of a protest demanding justice for the victim of the Anna University rape incident. On Thursday, he announced a 48-day fast and vowed to punish himself through whipping to express his outrage against the crime.

In addition to this symbolic act, Annamalai declared that he would forgo wearing shoes until the DMK is ousted from power in Tamil Nadu. He also stated that BJP members would stage daily protests outside his residence as part of the party’s continued campaign against the DMK government, which he holds responsible for law and order failures in the state.

He has criticized the DMK government over the increasing crimes against women, holding it accountable for the recent Anna University rape incident. He demanded strict action against the culprits and called for immediate and decisive police intervention to ensure justice for the victim.

As part of his protest, Annamalai announced a 48-day fast and vowed not to wear shoes until the DMK is removed from power in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized the need for stronger governance to address the safety and security of women in the state.
