New Delhi: The capital experienced an enchanting evening steeped in tradition, nostalgia, and the ethereal spirit of the monsoon as Padma Shri Malini Awasthi took center stage for “Sawan – A Celebration of Rain” at the Kamani Auditorium on 31st July 2025. Produced and promoted by Excurators Events Pvt. Ltd. and presented by Sonchiraiya, the sold-out concert brought together music lovers, cultural connoisseurs, and admirers of India’s folk heritage to revel in the emotional landscape of the rainy season through the magic of music.

The event was a heartfelt tribute to the timeless genres of Kajri, Jhoola, Malhar, Thumri, and Ghazal—musical traditions that for generations have given voice to yearning, joy, love, and spiritual devotion, all deeply intertwined with the monsoon.

The evening began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in the presence of Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture & Tourism, Government of India. Also gracing the occasion were Shri Kapil Mishra, Delhi’s Minister for Culture & Tourism, and Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

With her powerful and evocative renditions, Malini Awasthi transported the audience from the ghats of Banaras to the lush green fields of Awadh—where every drop of rain becomes poetry. Her seamless blend of storytelling and melody rekindled memories of a time when Sawan was not just a season, but a feeling—of home, of waiting, of fulfilment.

Some of the beloved compositions she performed included:
Sawan, Bagon Mein Pade Jhule, Sawan Ka Nazara Hai, Barsan Laagi Badariya, Sawan Jhadi Lage Dheere Dheere, Gheri Gheri Aai Badariya, and Badal Aaye Hain Par Khole.

Organized to revive and celebrate India’s folk heritage, the evening was a powerful reminder of the cultural treasures embedded in regional music. As the audience stepped out into the gentle showers and distant rumble of thunder, it was clear that Sawan had done more than entertain—it had awakened something timeless.
