New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, is organizing the Regional Community Radio Sammelan (East) on 10th and 11th December 2025 in Guwahati. The theme of the Regional Community Radio Sammelan (East) is “Celebrating 20 Years of Community Radio in India”.

The two-day Sammelan will bring together Community Radio practitioners, media educators, government representatives and experts from the eastern and northeastern states. Participants from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Manipur will come together to discuss the evolving landscape of Community Radio and explore future opportunities for strengthening the sector.
The event will begin with an inaugural session to be graced by distinguished speakers including Dr. Pragya Paliwal, Vice Chancellor of IIMC, Smt. Shilpa Rao, Director (CRS), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shri L. Madhu Nag, Registrar, IIMC and Prof. Sangeeta Pranvendra, Convenor of the Regional Sammelan.
Spread across two days the Sammelan shall have engaging sessions that address key policy and operational aspects related to Community Radio. This includes discussions on the renewal and adherence of Grant of Permission Agreements (GoPA), application procedures for government schemes, participation in national awards and the use of the Navigate Bharat Portal, role of Artificial Intelligence in Community Radio, the engagement of state governments in strengthening the CRS ecosystem, and the importance of indigenous languages in community broadcasting. Eminent experts such as Prof. Uma Pappuswamy from Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysuru, Karnataka, Shri N.A. Shah Ansari, Director-Radio Namaskar, Konark, Odisha, Prof. Kanchan K Malik from the University of Hyderabad and Prof. Sangeeta Pranvendra, Convenor of the Regional Sammelan will lead these insightful discussions.
A dedicated technical session conducted by WPC officials will guide participants through practical topics such as transmitter replacement, migration to the Saral Sanchar Portal and the process for Wireless Operating License renewal. This will equip CR stations with essential knowledge for smooth and compliant technical operations.
An “Open House & Way Forward” session will provide an interactive platform for participants to engage directly with Ministry and IIMC officials, share experiences, raise concerns and seek guidance on future strategies.
Celebrating 20 years of Community Radio in India, this Sammelan aims to reaffirm the commitment to strengthening community-driven media, encouraging collaboration and empowering stations to continue serving as vibrant platforms for local voices, culture and development communication.
