हरियाणा के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और आईएनएलडी प्रमुख ओमप्रकाश चौटाला का शुक्रवार को निधन हो गया। उन्होंने गुरुग्राम स्थित निजी आवास में दोपहर करीब 12 बजे अंतिम सांस ली। चौटाला को पिछले कुछ वर्षों से सांस लेने में दिक्कत थी और उनका इलाज मेदांता में चल रहा था। उनका पार्थिव शरीर शनिवार सुबह 8 बजे से 2 बजे तक सिरसा के तेजा खेड़ा फार्म पर अंतिम दर्शन के लिए रखा जाएगा, और दोपहर 3 बजे उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया जाएगा।
मुख्यमंत्री नायब सिंह सैनी ने ओमप्रकाश चौटाला के निधन पर शोक व्यक्त किया और कहा कि हरियाणा की राजनीति में उनका योगदान हमेशा याद किया जाएगा।
ओमप्रकाश चौटाला का जन्म 1 जनवरी 1935 को सिरसा जिले के चौटाला गांव में हुआ था। वे पांच बार हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री रहे। उनकी पहली बार मुख्यमंत्री बनने की तारीख 2 दिसंबर 1989 थी। इसके बाद वे 12 जुलाई 1990, 22 अप्रैल 1991, 24 जुलाई 1999, और 2 मार्च 2000 को फिर से मुख्यमंत्री बने। उनकी राजनीतिक यात्रा में कई उतार-चढ़ाव आए, जिनमें विधानसभा भंग करवाना और अपनी पार्टी का नाम बदलकर इंडियन नेशनल लोकदल (इनेलो) करना शामिल है।
चौटाला ने 82 साल की उम्र में 10वीं कक्षा पास की थी, जब उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय मुक्त विद्यालयी शिक्षा संस्थान (एनआईओएस) की परीक्षा दी थी। इस परीक्षा में उन्हें द्वितीय श्रेणी से 55.40 प्रतिशत अंक प्राप्त हुए थे। यह परीक्षा उन्होंने तिहाड़ जेल में एनआईओएस के स्टडी सेंटर से दी थी, जहां उनके साथ दो अन्य बुजुर्ग छात्रों ने भी सफलता प्राप्त की थी।
