New Delhi: At the IVCA Green Returns Summit 2025, Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), shared India’s climate strategy during a fireside chat with Ajay Bahal, Managing Partner at AZB & Partners. The session, titled “India’s Climate Change Goals – Thus Far, The Way Forward and The Big Picture”, focused on India’s progress, challenges, and next steps in sustainable development.

Shri Bhatia highlighted India’s achievements over the past decade, balancing economic growth with climate action. He explained that the next phase involves integrating climate initiatives across sectors, scaling clean technologies, and strengthening policies to encourage green investments.

“Over the past decade, India has steadily advanced its climate goals without losing sight of the country’s growth priorities. The task before us now is more complex and more consequential-embedding clean technologies across value chains, steering industry towards sustainable production models, and putting in place policy frameworks that give long-term clarity to investors,” said Shri Bhatia.

He added, “What encourages us is the clear shift within industry: sustainability is no longer a compliance requirement, but a business imperative. By strengthening enablers such as battery storage, manufacturing capabilities, and market-driven solutions, we aim to ensure that India’s climate ambitions translate into measurable impact on the ground.”

Shri Bhatia also emphasised the role of competitive manufacturing, green supply chains, and emerging technologies in meeting climate milestones. He noted that India’s climate strategy supports industries to transition sustainably while promoting innovation and economic growth. The discussion concluded that collaboration between government, industry, and investors is key to driving India’s climate goals and the next phase of sustainable development.
