Mumbai: Strengthening India’s defense and strategic communication arsenal, Olee Space, a domestic leader in laser-based communication and photonics defense technologies, has secured $3 million in seed funding from Rockstud Capital along with prominent global and domestic investors.

Founded by IIT Bombay alumnus James Solomon and engineer Suman Hiremath, Olee Space is pioneering advancements in quantum-encrypted laser communications and directed energy weapon (DEW) systems, positioning India at the forefront of next-generation defense and satellite innovation.
At the core of the company’s R&D is Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC)—low-powered infrared laser technology capable of delivering ultra-fast, secure data links across land, air, sea, and space. This enables unmatched speed, reliability, and encryption standards for both civilian and military networks.
Olee Space is also developing an indigenous DEW platform for anti-drone, anti-UAV, and anti-satellite operations, offering precision tracking, real-time targeting, and neutralization capabilities essential for modern electronic warfare.
“Working with light has always fascinated me. It’s deeply rewarding to apply laser technology in service of the nation, and my team and I are committed to pushing this frontier further,” said James Solomon, Founder & CEO.
“This funding reaffirms our belief that India can lead in photonics and laser-based defense systems. We are building solutions for the future of national security, space, and critical infrastructure,” added Suman Hiremath, Co-Founder & COO.
With over five years of focused R&D, Olee Space has already achieved successful field deployments and now aims to scale production, advance quantum-secure communication protocols, and expand its DEW technology roadmap in alignment with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Abhishek Agarwal, Managing Partner at Rockstud Capital, commented:
“Olee Space is shaping a future where communication freedom is protected by unbreakable security, and ultra-high-bandwidth networks redefine global connectivity. James’s vision of a self-healing, agile satellite mesh with cutting-edge optical payloads is truly transformative. We’re thrilled to support this mission.”
