Kolkata: India’s leading building materials exhibition MATECIA (Materials & Products for Construction, Interiors & Architecture), in association with SURFACES REPORTER, was inaugurated today at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata, marking the largest-ever architecture, interiors and building materials platform for East & Northeast India.


The three-day event, running from 30 January to 1 February 2026, was inaugurated by National Award–winning actor and Founder, Ashish Vidyarthi & Associates, Mr. Ashish Vidyarthi, in the presence of senior industry leaders, architects and policymakers. The ceremony included traditional lamp lighting and addresses by Mr. Rajesh Mittal, President, FIPPI & CMD, Greenply Industries Ltd; Mr. Surinder Arora, President, ILMA & MD, Virgo Industries Ltd; Mr. Ramesh Bagla, President, CTMA; and Ms. Meenakshi Ganeshan, Deputy Director General, BIS (East Zone).
Ashish Vidyarthi said, “This industry works quietly yet shapes everything we live in- from homes to cities. Platforms like MATECIA and the SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event celebrate the makers and architects whose commitment to quality, integrity and thoughtful choices defines progress.”
Spread across 1,50,000+ sq. ft., the event features 100+ leading brands, 150+ architecture and design firms, and participation from 12+ states across East and Northeast India. It is expected to attract 14,000–16,000 visitors from over 100 cities, highlighting the scale and diversity of the region’s design ecosystem.

The event also hosts India Interior Retailing (IIR), Surfaces Reporter SHOWCASE, and the Surfaces Reporter Salutes – Architecture & Design Honours on 31 January 2026, recognising 100 leading architects and designers behind 500+ landmark regional projects.
