Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have decided to part ways after 29 years of marriage, their lawyer announced on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

In a statement released on behalf of the couple, renowned divorce lawyer Vandana Shah explained that the decision was made following “significant emotional strain” in their relationship.

“After many years of marriage, Saira and her husband, A.R. Rahman, have made the difficult choice to separate. This step follows considerable emotional challenges in their relationship,” Shah stated.

The news was confirmed through a statement from their lawyer, Vandana Shah, citing emotional strain and irreconcilable differences as the primary reasons. The couple, who married in 1995 in an arranged marriage set up by Rahman’s mother, are parents to three children—Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
