Mumbai: Shri Saravana Kumar, Chief Executive Officer and Director of NSIC Venture Capital Fund Ltd, spoke at the IVCA Conclave 2026 during a panel discussion titled “The Home Advantage: How Domestic Institutions and Family Offices are Reshaping Private Markets.” The discussion focused on how domestic capital is playing a bigger role in shaping India’s private investment market.
The panel included Dr Ruchi Chojer (SEBI), Karthik Athreya (Sundaram Alternates), Vikram Gupta (IvyCap Ventures) and was moderated by Tejesh Chitlangi of IC RegFin Legal. The speakers discussed the growing influence of domestic institutional investors and family offices in strengthening India’s private markets.
Saravana Kumar highlighted the role of domestic capital in supporting long-term investment, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and emerging businesses. He said a strong domestic investment base helps improve stability and resilience in the alternative investment ecosystem.
“Out of the ₹12,000 crore corpus of the SRI Fund, more than ₹8,000 crore has already been committed. Through these funds, we have supported over 750 companies, with nine already listed on NSE and BSE. The portfolio has also created more than 1.6 lakh jobs, including around 26,000 for women, and we have over 20 women fund managers associated with us,” he said.
He also noted that government-supported funds can help attract private investments, expand market participation and strengthen governance standards. According to him, continued collaboration between policymakers, regulators and market participants is important to improve access to finance and support sustainable economic growth.
Saravana Kumar further explained that the SRI Fund is a public-private partnership supported by the Government of India to promote the MSME sector. The government can contribute up to 20% of the fund, while the remaining capital is raised by Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) from domestic investors, family offices and global investors.
The IVCA Conclave, now in its 15th edition, brings together regulators, policymakers, investors and industry leaders to discuss the future of private equity, venture capital, credit markets, infrastructure financing and long-term capital formation in India.
