युवक ने बताया कि टिकट खरीदने के पैसे नहीं थे, इसलिए उसने पुणे-दानापुर सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस (12149) के एस-4 कोच के नीचे पहियों के पास ट्रॉली जैसी जगह पर बैठकर इटारसी से जबलपुर तक करीब 250 किलोमीटर का सफर तय किया। जबलपुर स्टेशन के आउटर पर रेल कर्मियों ने रोलिंग परीक्षण के दौरान उसे देखा और तुरंत ट्रेन रुकवाई।
रेलवे के कैरिज एंड वैगन विभाग (एसीएंडडब्ल्यू) के कर्मचारियों ने जब पहियों की जांच की तो उन्होंने कोच के नीचे छिपे हुए व्यक्ति को देखा। वायरलेस से सूचना देने के बाद चालक ने ट्रेन को रोक दिया। हालांकि, ट्रेन रुकने के बावजूद युवक बाहर नहीं निकल रहा था। जब रेलकर्मियों ने कड़ी चेतावनी दी, तब जाकर उसे बाहर निकाला गया।
