खो-खो को ‘मिट्टी का खेल’ कहा जाता है, यह एक पारंपरिक खेल है जो भारत के गाँव-गाँव में खेला जाता है। पहली बार आयोजित हुए खो-खो वर्ल्ड कप में भारत की पुरुष और महिला टीमों ने एक साथ चैंपियन बनने का गौरव हासिल किया एवं इतिहास रच दिया। भारतीय खेल इतिहास में यह दुर्लभ क्षण था जब पुरुष और महिला टीमों ने एक ही दिन में दो घंटे के भीतर वर्ल्ड कप खिताब जीता।
नई दिल्ली के इंदिरा गांधी इंडोर स्टेडियम में हुए इस टूर्नामेंट में दोनों भारतीय टीमों ने शानदार प्रदर्शन किया और अजेय रहते हुए चैंपियनशिप अपने नाम की। पुरुष टीम ने नेपाल को 54-36 के अंतर से हराकर खिताब पर कब्जा जमाया, वहीं महिला टीम ने नेपाल को 78-40 के बड़े अंतर से हराया।
पुरुष वर्ग: दमदार प्रदर्शन से खिताब पर कब्जा
भारतीय पुरुष टीम ने पूरे टूर्नामेंट में शानदार खेल दिखाया। फाइनल मुकाबले में कप्तान प्रतीक वाइकर और रामजी कश्यप ने बेहतरीन खेल का प्रदर्शन किया। सुयश गारगाटे को ‘बेस्ट अटैकर ऑफ द मैच’ और नेपाल के रोहित वर्मा को ‘बेस्ट डिफेंडर’ चुना गया। भारतीय खिलाड़ी मेहुल को ‘बेस्ट प्लेयर ऑफ द मैच’ का पुरस्कार मिला।
टॉस जीतकर नेपाल ने डिफेंस चुना, लेकिन भारतीय टीम ने टर्न 1 में 26 पॉइंट, टर्न 2 में 26 पॉइंट और टर्न 3 में 54 पॉइंट अर्जित किए। आखिरी टर्न में नेपाल की टीम केवल 8 पॉइंट ही बना सकी, जिससे भारतीय टीम ने एकतरफा अंदाज में जीत दर्ज की।
महिला वर्ग: नेपाल को बड़े अंतर से हराया
महिला टीम ने भी टूर्नामेंट में दबदबा बनाए रखा। फाइनल में नेपाल ने टॉस जीतकर पहले डिफेंस करने का फैसला किया। भारतीय टीम ने पहली पारी में 34 पॉइंट अर्जित किए और नेपाल की टीम ने केवल 24 पॉइंट हासिल किए। हाफ टाइम तक स्कोर 35-24 रहा।
तीसरी पारी में भारत ने 38 पॉइंट जोड़े और 73-24 से बढ़त बनाई। आखिरी पारी में नेपाल ने 16 पॉइंट बनाए, जबकि भारत ने 5 पॉइंट जोड़े, जिससे स्कोर 78-40 हो गया और भारत पहली महिला खो-खो वर्ल्ड चैंपियन बन गई।
भारत की विजय यात्रा
महिला वर्ग में 19 टीमों ने भाग लिया, जिसमें भारत ने ग्रुप स्टेज में ईरान, मलेशिया और दक्षिण कोरिया को बड़े अंतर से हराया। क्वार्टर फाइनल में भारत ने बांग्लादेश को 109-16 और सेमीफाइनल में दक्षिण अफ्रीका को 66-16 से हराया।
पुरुष वर्ग में 20 टीमों ने भाग लिया, जिसमें भारत ने नेपाल, ब्राजील, पेरू और भूटान को हराकर सेमीफाइनल में प्रवेश किया। सेमीफाइनल में भारत ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका को 62-42 से हराया और फिर फाइनल में नेपाल को शिकस्त दी।
खो-खो: भारत का पारंपरिक खेल
खो-खो में दो टीमें होती हैं, प्रत्येक में 12 खिलाड़ी होते हैं। चेजिंग टीम के 7 खिलाड़ी खेलते हैं, जबकि डिफेंस टीम के 12 खिलाड़ी मैदान में होते हैं। खेल में कुल 4 पारियां होती हैं, जिनमें प्रत्येक टीम को 7-7 मिनट मिलते हैं।
टॉस जीतने वाली टीम चेज या डिफेंस करने का निर्णय लेती है। चेजिंग टीम के खिलाड़ी अपने साथियों को ‘खो’ कहकर बारी-बारी से खेल में शामिल करते हैं। डिफेंस टीम का उद्देश्य अधिक समय तक आउट हुए बिना खेल में बने रहना होता है।
वर्ल्ड कप नियमावली
खो-खो 22×16 मीटर के मैदान में खेला जाता है। चेजिंग टीम के खिलाड़ी एक-दूसरे के विपरीत दिशा में बैठते हैं और एक खिलाड़ी दौड़कर डिफेंस टीम के खिलाड़ियों को छूने का प्रयास करता है। डिफेंस टीम के खिलाड़ी अगर 3 मिनट तक मैदान में टिके रहते हैं, तो उन्हें ‘ड्रीम रन’ मिलता है, जिससे उनकी टीम को 1 पॉइंट मिलता है।
